Lines Composed on my 18th Birthday, After reading T.S. Eliot

“To be conscious is not to be in time,”
Although it may not seem this way at first
Because of habits we have made throughout
Our lives, so overcome with hate and thirst.
But! There is not a difference ‘tween the two,
The clinging and the Buddha’s state of mind,
Just think on this while taking in the view
From some high mountain man will never find.

The trees and dirt,
Will never hurt,
Because they are enlightened, too
They sit and be,
So calm and free,
So why not you and me?
